Certified Mad

On April 11th 2017, I was certified Mad for Flare. MadCap Flare is an XHTML-based authoring tool created by MadCap Software, an American computer software firm with its headquarters in San Diego, California.

For my role at Sitecore, I used HTML, XHTML and CSS to style course materials and publish them for ILT and eLearning.

The certification process:

Step 1: Prepare for the Test
i) Take a Class
ii) Explore MadCap Resources
iii) Take a Practice Test

Step 2: Register for the Test
A purchase a key is required to access the certification test. The test costs $149 and can be purchased through the MadCap Store.

Step 3: Take the Certification Test
The MAD Certification test is an online test comprised of 50 questions, with an allotted test time of 75 minutes. Unanswered questions are counted as incorrect. In order to pass the test, you need a passing score of 70% or above.

Step 4: Create a Sample Project
After completing  the test, the results are emailed. If you earn a passing score, the stage is to complete a sample project, which becomes the property of MadCap Software.

The sample project needed to contain at least the following:

      • 12 topics
      • 6 links
      • 3 images
      • a skin
      • a page layout
      • a master page
      • 2 condition tags
      • 2 different output types

Storyline: Remove Download Video Control Button (Chrome)

This issue appears in Chrome browser while running a published Storyline course in an LMS. A download button appears on the video control bar below the video. This would enable all students to download the videos to their local machine.

The fix is simple and just means adding some lines of CSS to the CSS file in the published Storyline file in the zipped package and re-zipping it. This does not affect the LMS as it just redefines the parameters on the WebKit controls in CSS for the video and audio to ensure any download options, have been disabled.

Instructions to update:

  1. Locate the file:  player.CSS in the zipped published package for example: [ModuleName]\mobile\player.css
  2. Ensure you have unzipped it locally to apply the fix
  3. Add the following code to lines 692-714
video::-internal-media-controls-download-button {

display:none;

}

video::-webkit-media-controls-enclosure {

overflow:hidden;

}

video::-webkit-media-controls-panel {

width: calc(100% + 30px); /* Adjust as needed */

}

audio::-internal-media-controls-download-button {

display:none !important;

}

audio::-webkit-media-controls-enclosure {

overflow:hidden !important;

}

audio::-webkit-media-controls-panel {

width: calc(100% + 30px) !important;

}
player.css - Atom
player.css using Atom
  1. Save the file
  2. Zip all the contents back up carefully
  3. Upload to LMS
  4. Test
